Scottish Icetrip

Info: If there is one place on earth where climbers celebrate the arrival of the next snowstorm, it has to be Scotland. Each winter, pounded by the North Atlantic winds, the Scottish Highlands are covered by a layer of snow and frost at the mercy of weather conditions. Here, winter climbing has existed for more than a century, and the smell of adventure is as authentic as the whisky borne of the local peat. Climbing is done from the ground up, without bolts, and generally onsight. An introduction to the very modern ethics of Scottish mixed climbing. It's in those condition that Ueli Steck flashed "the secret" (X, 10), the hardest climb in Ben Nevis.

The Longest Way 1.0 - one year walk/beard grow time lapse

Info: All of the distance from Beijing to Ürümqi has been completed solely on foot, straight good old walking. There are instances where you can see me in the video sitting on a plane or riding a boat, but those are during breaks I had to take from walking, either to sort out bureaucracy issues or to take care of some personal things.
- I had been planning this trip for over a year before I even started, and getting as far as I got was an experience for which I am very grateful.

Avalanche Skier POV Helmet Cam Burial

Info: This was a decent sized avalanche. 1,500 feet the dude fell in a little over 20 seconds. The crown was about 1 - 1.5m. The chute that he got sucked through to the skier's right was flanked on either side by cliff bands that were about 30m tall. He luckily didn't break any bones and obviously didn't hit anything on the run out.

He was only buried for 4 and a half minutes which is incredibly short. I cannot stress these next sentences enough; that in and of itself to be unburied in ONLY 4:28 is miraculous if you have any understanding of being caught in an avalanche and what it takes to be found.

Journey Into Amazing Caves

Info: Barton and Aulenbach are extreme athletes and extreme scientists - scientists who gather their data in treacherous places where few dare to follow. In Journey Into Amazing Caves they travel to caves in Arizona, Greenland and Mexico searching for discoveries that may lead to cures for human disease."

EXTREME

Info: EXTREME is a visually stunning 45-minute journey into the soul of adventure featuring a cast of world champion athletes. Combining incredible extreme sport action with narration from the athletes and an eclectic, contemporary soundtrack, EXTREME explores the paradox of human nature: facing fear from the edge of life. The film takes viewers to the edge of outdoor adventure sports like never before; skiing and snowboarding perilous untouched mountain peaks; climbing vertical frozen waterfalls and red-rock spires; surfing some of the largest waves ever surfed and windsurfing gale force winds.

The Giant Crystal Cave

Info: This secret place is as deadly as it is beautiful. With a temperature of 45 degrees Celsius and humidity over 90 per cent, it could kill an unprotected human in 30 minutes. In fact, on the first scientific mission to explore it in 2007, it very nearly did. Despite the danger, our team has returned to revisit one of the world's most amazing subterranean spaces. The caves are gradually being re-submerged in the scalding waters that formed the crystals. In a race against time, one team explores the original site while another group risks their lives by descending into a newly drilled shaft in the hope of discovering an interconnected system of underground chambers.

Expedition Borneo

Info: Wildlife adventure series following a team of explorers in the heart of the tropical island of Borneo. They are trying to collate evidence of as many animals/species old and new to save this untouched rainforest.

Everest

Info: An international team of climbers ascends Mt. Everest in the spring of 1996. The film depicts their lengthy preparations for the climb, their trek to the summit, and their successful return to Base Camp. It also shows many of the challenges the group faced, including avalanches, lack of oxygen, treacherous ice walls, and a deadly blizzard.

Touching the Void

Info: Quite a popular story, In 1985, two British mountaineers conquered the west face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. Little did they know that the challenge was only just beginning.

Carts of Darkness

Info: A bit random but nevertheless interesting, this feature-length documentary follows a group of homeless men who have combined bottle picking with the extreme sport of racing shopping carts down the steep hills of North Vancouver. This subculture shows that street life is much more than the stereotypes portrayed in mainstream media. The film takes a deep look into the lives of the men who race carts, the adversity they face and the appeal of cart racing despite the risk.

Step Into Liquid

Info: Where Bruce Brown cast his beach bums as nomads, wandering in search of the perfect wave and sharing smiles with like-minded dudes, junior is eager to capture the sport as a broader phenomenon, showing women, kids, and men caught in curls everywhere from shores of Ireland to the beaches of Vietnam. In one sequence, he latches onto a group of top female surfers and takes to Tahiti’s famous Teahupo’o Beach.

He also follows three Irish brothers as they not only introduce some local kids to surfing but also invite Protestant boys and girls to join Catholic kids for the lessons. As can be expected, the surfing footage is heart-pounding stuff; you’ll be amazed just how close Brown will bring you to the action. Slow-motion camera work elongates some of the most spectacular rides, and you’ll feel every wipeout as though it had happened to you.

Worlds Biggest Cave

Info: I remember seeing pictures of this cave in the national geographic magazine.
More than three times the height of Niagara Falls, much of Vietnam’s Mountain River Cave has remained untouched by humans until now. With exclusive footage, NGC reveals, for the first time in history, astounding evidence which suggest that this could be the largest cave in the world.
Together with renowned expedition leader Howard Limbert, cave geologist Darryl Granger uncovers the formula for how the cave grew so grand. This video comes in 3 parts.

Men who jump off buildings

Info: The documentary features a host of stunning shots (courtesy of helmet cams) which capture the jumps. There is something incredibly watchable and absorbing about seeing a man plummet to the ground from his point-of-view, smashing into the floor and slumping, lifeless on the ground. The Men Who Jump Off Buildings is a haunting but fascinating insight into BASE jumping. “Everybody dies,” says Dan, “but not everybody lives”.

Solo: Lost at Sea - The Story of Andrew McAuley

Info: On January 11, 2007, Andrew McAuley set out on his quest to become the first person to kayak from Australia to New Zealand across one of the wildest and loneliest stretches of ocean on Earth. On February 9, New Zealand maritime authorities received his distress call. Having survived a harrowing and torturous month at sea, conquering monstrous swells and terrifying storms, McAuley lost his life only a day from completing his journey. His body was never recovered, but the camera tapes from his kayak were and they form the basis of this moving and questioning portrait of a complex man, his family, his supporters and his attempt to conquer the ferocious Tasman Sea.

Waterwalker

Info: This feature-length documentary follows naturalist Bill Mason on his journey by canoe into the Ontario wilderness. The filmmaker and artist begins on Lake Superior, then explores winding and sometimes tortuous river waters to the meadowlands of the river's source. Along the way, Mason paints scenes that capture his attention and muses about his love of the canoe, his artwork and his own sense of the land. Mason also uses the film as a commentary on the link between God and nature and the vast array of beautiful canvases God created for him to paint.
